Parent update for May 9-10

Parent update - May 9-10 weekend

We look forward to a full weekend of Ball Hockey including games at Gorsebrook, Lebrun and GEC.

Please note that after we see the teams in action this weekend, we may make a few additional roster changes.  Our goal is to balance the teams. Please note that the additional changes may impact the buddy requests that people have made. It is simply not possible to maintain all the buddy requests and balance the teams. As balancing teams is our priority your cooperation with upcoming changes will be essential.

Please bear with us as we have just gone live with our team lsts and schedules. I am sure we will have a few issues to resolve but am confident all will be cleared up soon.  We have invested in the GrayJay platform as it is the best in market, it is now used by almost all minor hockey associations in Nova Scotia, and it is a great local company. We are simply working out the bugs and will have things up and running soon.  Please send any questions my way.

Please consult the website for team lists and schedule at www.nsmbhl.ca

  • Press the age group, then league in drop down
  • Search by player
  • Go to your players team to find your team lst and schedule
  • Have a close look of the schedule to note the venue and time
  • Note that your team may play on both Saturday and Sunday. This will happen 2 or 3 times during the season.

Team jerseys will be passed out this weekend.

Thanks to the new coaches who have volunteered recently. We still need several additional coaches!

Our facilities are Gorsebrook Park (outdoor) which is located between the IWK and SMU. GEC in Hammonds Plains and the Lebrun Arena in Bedford.

Coaching up date - May 9-10

Coaching up date May 9-10

Each week we will post a coaching update to share coaching info

A heads up that the teams are not set. We will use this weekend to help further adjust the teams. Please share your observations. Is your team to strong, or maybe not strong enough?

When your first arrive, you will be given a team roster and set of jerseys. You will find an assortment of jerseys that typically fits your age group. Please try and make the sizing and numbers work. Please record the number of each player and return it to a Sport Manager who will be wearing a white shirt.

All teams will be asked to go to the centre. There will be a brief welcome and then off to their first skill.

The skill (u8 or u10) will be demonstrated, or the first game will start (u12 or u15), and then we are underway. Please guide nd motivate your players through the skills.

Please keep in mind the 2-minute shifts in u8 and u10. Setting your lines and helping the kids change is often the first skill to teach.

Our team of guys will be there to help if needed.

Welcome Kentville Minor Ball Hockey - Let's Grow Ball Hockey in the Valley

The Nova Scotia Minor Ball Hockey League is thrilled to welcome KENTVILLE MinorBall Hockey to the league. “After receiving several great calls from Valley parents urging us to bring the NSMBHL to Kentville we quickly decided that this was the perfect opportunity to grow Ball Hockey in the Valley”. comments NSMBHL Managing Director Louis Brill. “The welcome has been fantastic, and this includes from Nick at the Kentville Arena who helped us secure a facility in record time”.  While the league will be hosted in Kentville we are welcoming players from all over the Valley to join us.   Based on the enthusiasm we have received so far, we are confident we can make this work”. Brill added.

“The biggest challenge with getting a new league off the ground is recruiting enough players. We need 36 players per age group to make it work. This is our biggest challenge, and we need the help of the local community to make this a success. We need to spread the word and we will need people to recruit a few buddies. It will take hard work, but as soon as we see the kids putting down the screens and playing some super fun ball hockey, it will all be worth it!!!” explained Brill.

All Games will be at the Kentville Centennial Arena on Tuesday nights 5-9 and Saturdays 10-2.   Age groups are U8, U1, U12 and U15.  Registration is open at www.nsmbhl.ca

Please help support Kentville Minor Ball Hockey by sharing this info with your friends.

Become a Ball Hockey Coach!

Like most minor sport, the NSMBHL is supported by parents and siblings who volunteer as either a Head Coach or as an Assistant Coach. Coaching is a wonderful way to spend unforgetable time with your child while helping others enjoy sport. Our league is a great place to start your coaching expereince and we promise you will have a great time! We will provide an online coaching clinic prior to the start of the season and then ongoing support. We ask our Head Coaches to have hockey, sport or teaching expereince. The Assistant Coaching role does not require any expereince. Our goal is to have three coaches per team. This will ensure the team is covered if a coach must miss a session.

Please consider joining us as a Coach!  To do so, you can indicate your interest during your players registration process or by sending us an email at admin@nsmbhl.ca .
