Coaching info

A great way to support your child's team, build community, and help kids fall in love with the game.

Why coach with NSMBHL?

·         Create great memories with your child and their teammates

·         Help kids build confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship

·         Support a safe, fun environment where every player feels included

·         Learn simple coaching tools you can use in any sport

Who we are looking for

·         Parents/guardians, older siblings, and community volunteers

·         Organized, dependable, and positive

·         Comfortable communicating with kids and parents

·         Hockey knowledge is helpful, but you do not need to be an expert

How teams are staffed

·         We aim for three coaches per team: one Head Coach and two Assistants

·         This helps with line changes, player support, and coverage if a coach needs to miss a game

Training and support

·         A two-hour coach training session (in person or by Zoom)

·         Rules of play, safety expectations, and how we run game day

·         Coaching tips to keep kids engaged and improving

·         Ongoing support from League Staff and experienced coaches

Time commitment

·         Most coaches attend the majority of games each week

·         Plan to arrive a bit early to meet the team and set lines

·         If you need to miss a game occasionally, having three coaches makes that easier

How to volunteer

·         Indicate your interest during player registration, or

·         Email admin@nsmbhl.ca with your name, community, and the age group you can help with

·         We will follow up with next steps and training details
