Become a Minor Ball Hockey Referee

Developing leadership skills in our older players is an important goal of the Nova Scotia Minor Ball Hockey League. Every season we recruit a quality team of referees to ensure our league is run safely, efficiently and within the rules of the game. Our referees are crucial to our success.

We are looking for young leaders who:

  • Are motivated to develop their leadership skills
  • Have the ability to lead both players and coaches
  • Are fair and have good judgement.
  • Have good hockey knowledge.
  • Are between the ages of 14-17.
  • Play in our U17 division.
  • Sign up with a buddy.
  • Help recruit players and lead a team in our u17 division.
  • Will be dedicate to our league while being 100% reliable.

The NSMBHL will provide:

  • A training session prior to the start of the season.
  • On going guidance and assistance throughout the season.
  • Pay for each game refereed.

What each referee must bring to the table:

  • A desire to gain a thorough understanding of all rules of play.
  • Each referee must have a standard ref shirt and whistle.
  • A commitment to being 100% reliable and to show up when expected.
  • To always be on time.
  • As a representative of the league, you will always look and act professionally.
  • You will take your commitment for making each game safe and fun for every player very seriously.
